CHEQUES totalling more than £1,000 were presented by fundraising Okehampton College sixth form students to three different charities last week.

The sixth formers (pictured right) divided the £1,009.47 they raised, between the representatives of three charities: £350 to Bramble children?s ward, Exeter Hospital; £350 for People and Planet and £309.47 for Cancer Research UK.

Since last September, Okehampton College sixth form charity representatives Peter Herrod-Taylor and Jenna Morris have been hard at work devising ideas to raise money for the three charities.

The original target was to raise £1,000, and thanks to the support and commitment of the whole sixth form it was soon reached.

The money was raised through several football and basketball matches, a draw to win a TV, a sponsored cycle ride in France and a pizza day. Several activities took place in March for Comic Relief, including a three-legged race, a red dress code and the sale of red noses which helped contribute more than £100 to the fund.

Okehampton College sixth-form fundraising committee expressed thanks to everyone for their support and contributions, especially those who co-organised events.

The fundraisers also voiced a special thank you to those businesses who purchased the draw prize, a TV, and to Heinz who provided desserts for the college?s pizza day.
