TAVISTOCK Bowling Club?s first match of last week was Tuesday?s men?s county trophy away fixture against Peverell Park. It ended in an 81-64 victory for the Tavistock team, after each side won two of the four rinks played. Skip Clive Jago and his crew of Harvey Leach, Barry Chappell and George Blackburn won 24-13, after being in the lead from the start. Skip Mike Allen led his team of Vic Stacey, Norman Paramor and Geoff Cork to 30-15 win after scoring steadily and in a final burst picking up 12 shots over the last five ends. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Brian Davis, Clifford Hicks and David Perry went down 15-16 when their opposition won the last end of the match by one shot. Skip Roy Northam and his team of Mike Silcox, Frank Welch and Ernie Piper lost 12-20, despite winning ten of the 21 ends. Wednesday saw the ladies? team facing City Bus in a home fixture that ended as a 46-28 win for Tavistock. Skip Marion Allen and her squad of Marlene Paramor, Henny Bawden and Hazel Lovell won 21-14, and skip Betty Browse led her crew of Anne Browne, Sue Silcox and Freda Issac to a 25-14 victory. Friday saw the ladies in action again, when they travelled to face Plymouth Sir Francis Drake ladies on their Plymouth green. Skip Val Southern and her crew won the friendly rink (21-13), but both league rinks were won by the Plymouth ladies, with Tavistock skips Marion Allen (9-39) and Jill Lacayo (11-38), both losing out to strong opposition. Bere Alston men?s evening league team played host to Tavistock men on Friday evening, for a four rink league fixture which Bere Alston won 80-79. despite Tavistock winning three of the four rinks played. Tavistock skip Mike Allen and his crew of Vic Stacey, Norman Paramor and Clifford Hicks won 21-15. Skip Clive Jago and his squad of Barry Chappell, Der Saunders and Ernie won 22-13. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of George Blackburn, David Parry and Brian Davis achieved a narrow 23-22 victory after picking up two shots on the last end of their game. Unfortunately for Tavistock, skip Roy Northam and his crew of Tom Percival, Frank Welch and Bill Ashe lost 13-30, after scoring on only eight of the 21 ends. Bideford Bowling Club brought four men?s and two ladies? rinks to Tavistock on Saturday and went home having won (94-96) when the Tavistock teams won three rinks, lost two and drew one. Tavistock team results: skip Mike Allen and his crew of Geoff Cork, Charlie Cummings and Roy Northam lost (12-19), while skip Der Saunders and his team of George Blackburn, Barry Chappell and Ernie Piper won (18-16). Skip Norman Paramor and his squad of Vic Stacey, Albert Townsend and Harvey Leach, won (17-15) and skip Ron Cooper led his team of Stuart Doidge, Wallace Northey and Brian Preece to a 20-10 victory. Skip Jill Lacayo and her team of Gordon Northey, Joan Northey and Jenny Aldridge lost (11-22). Skip Sue Silcox and her team of Shirley Blackburn and Val Southern drew (16-16) after winning seven of the last nine ends of their game.
