TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club achieved a first on Wednesday week when, for the first time in recent years, they beat a Plymouth and District League Representative team 131-95, thanks to winning three of the six rinks played by good margins.

Skip Mike Allen led his team of George Barrand, Stann Finn and Pat Sykes to a 20-8 victory. Skip Eric Stevens and his team of Geoff Cork, Brian Preece and Gordon Northey won 26-12, while skip Colin Tremaine led his squad to a 24-19 victory.

Skips Ron Cooper (13-20), Der Saunders (16-20) and John Smith (12-16) all saw their rinks lose.

Sunday saw the men facing a West Surrey County Bowling team and losing 107-133.

Skip Der Saunders and his team of Geoff Cork, George Barrand and Roy Gill won 25-15, while skip Colin Tremaine led his team of George Blackburn, Roy Northam and Derek Bradford to a 29-23 victory.

Tavistock skips Eric Stevens (9-28), Ron Cooper (15-17), Stuart Doidge (20-21) and Roger Bawden (9-29) all saw their rinks lose.

Monday's visit by a Tamar men's team resulted in a 61-86 defeat for the Tavistock men, whose only winning rink was led by skip Mike Allen with a team of Brian Preece, Rob Bowhay and David Perry, who won 25-10.

Skips Der Saunders (15-20), Eric Stevens (14-21) and Phil Jury (7-35) all saw their teams lose.

Friday's visit by a Paignton team resulted in a 112-109 victory for Tavistock, thanks to them winning four of the six rinks played.

Skip Bernie Downs and his team of George Barrand, Joan Northey and Walter Meek, won 17-16. Skip Pat Sykes and his team of Anne Doidge, Gerald Worth and Gordon Northey won 26-22.

Skip Sandy Sanders and his team of Vic Doidge, Wendy Bloomer and Tony Coombs, won 21-16, while skip Mike Allen achieved a draw. Skips Betty Browse (15-19) and Norman Paramor (17-20) both lost.

The ladies' section won their midweek match against Elizabethans (41-40) thanks to skip Betty Browse and her team of Marlene Paramor, Freda Issac and Hazell Lovell, winning 20-17. Skip Jean Flay saw her team lose 21-23 and the friendly rink skipped by Joan Northey lost 14-21.

The ladies lost their quarter-final Top Club match against Topsham played on Sunday, going down on both rinks with skip Jean Flay losing 12-20 and skip Henny Bawden losing 14-26.
