SIR Francis Drake Bowling Club?s County Trophy away match against Plymouth Sir Francis Drake resulted in a comprehensive 74-99 victory for the home side thanks to them winning three of the four rinks played.

Tavistock skip Roy Northam and his team of Colin Tremaine, Wallace Northey and Lionel Sims won 21-17, but skips Mike Allen (17-28), Eric Stevens (13-27) and Malcolm Bloomer (23-26) all lost.

Tuesday saw the men?s team away at Plymstock for a league game against Dean Cross. It had all the promise of a battle royal and lived up to expectations with Tavistock emerging 7-72 winners, thanks to a good performance from skip Mike Allen and his squad of Pat Sykes, Derek Bradford and Tony Coombes, who won 23-12.

Tavistock?s other three rinks all lost, but only by narrow margins. skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Der Saunders, Wallace Northey and Brian Preece lost 15-16, while skip Eric Stevens and his team of Sandy Sanders, Norman Paramor and Ernie Piper also lost by one shot when going down 19-20.

Skip Roy Northam and his team of David Perry, Lionel Sims and Geoff Cork battled out a long game, which swung one way then the other. With the rest of the rinks finished and watching, Roy fought his way back from being 12-23 down on the 17th end to pick up seven shots over the next three ends, losing (19-24), a margin narrow enough to enable Tavistock to hold on to the winning position the rest of the teams had achieved.

The men?s County Trophy match at Yelverton on Friday resulted in an 80-66 win for the Tavistock teams who won three of the four rinks played.

Skip Roy Northam, on his return to his old club, won 31-12 thanks to his team of Colin Tremaine, Derek Bradford and Wallace Northey. Skip Mike Allen and his squad of Pat Sykes, Phil Jury and Tony Coombs won 19-14, while skip Eric Stevens and his team of Norman Paramor, Ron Cooper and Ernie Piper won 21-15.

Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Geoff Cork, Der Saunders and Brian Preece lost (9-25) after scoring on only seven of the 21 ends played.

Saturday saw a mixed team travel to Barnstaple for a game against the United Services Club, which ended in a comfortable 116-84 victory for the home side who won four of the five rinks contested.

Tavistock skip Robert Bowhay and his team of Val Southern, Jenny Tremaine and Clifford Hicks managed a 17-12 winning scoreline, but skips Der Saunders (11-24), Colin Tremaine (12-20), Ron Cooper (14-19) and Betty Browse (20-21) all lost.

The ladies? section match away against Victoria on Thursday resulted in a 50-38 win for Tavistock, thanks to skip Jenny Tremaine and her team winning 12-15 and skip Marion Allen leading her squad to a 29-23 victory.
