THE singing talents of a group of Tavistock students at St Joseph's School in Launceston have helped win the senior chamber choir a coveted prize for an unprecedented eight years running.
The choir has just won the Travers-Stubbs trophy for the most outstanding school choir at Plymouth Music Festival, obtaining an honours mark of 90 from adjudicator Luise Horrocks.
Natalie Leadbeater, Laura Tear, Faye Sylvester, Sam Hooper, Katherine Chalmers and Olivia Tanner also helped the choir to take the Thomas Baker Shield.
Natalie, Faye and Sam are also members of the Cantabile and Canzonetta — Cantabile retained the Greenbank Methodist Sunday School Cup in the year 9 and under class, while Canzonetta retained the Winnicott Shield in the year 13 and under class.
Canzonetta's singing was described as technically assured, confident and extremely musical.
Fresh from its success in Plymouth, the choir will be filming for two days with Carlton TV in Launceston in December and performing with Plymouth Philharmonic Choir in the city's Guildhall on December 10.
A joint concert with Tavistock College is in the pipeline and on December 18 the senior choir and Canzonetta have been invited to sing in Truro Cathedral.
