A SPECIAL car safety course aimed at women drivers in the Tavistock area has been so successful more sessions could be arranged in the future.
The evening course, run by Tavistock Tyres, manufacturers Bridgestone/Firestone UK and Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, gave vital safety advice, maintenance and what to do in the event of a breakdown.
Simon Allen of Tavistock Tyres said: 'The evening covered crucial issues for all women drivers.
'Among other things we indicated the essential vehicle checks which should be performed to reduce the risk of breakdowns.'
Simon gave a practical lesson on how to change a wheel, including tips on where to find the spare and how to jack the car up.
PC Chris Lancaster explained who to contact and what to do in the event of a breakdown, while Bridgestone development manager Glen Birkwood highlighted the importance of tyre maintenance, air pressure, how to spot tyre misalignment and the early signs of irregular wear.
Juliet Blake, a participant on the course, said: 'The evening was extremely informative and I learnt a great deal about fundamental checks that I can perform to reduce the possibility of breaking down'
All participants on the course were given a pack of useful breakdown aids, including a torch and fluorescent jacket.
Tavistock Tyres is now aiming to run further courses in the future, although dates are yet to be confirmed.
