ST JAMES Chapel in Okehampton was the focus for a minute's silence yesterday (Wednesday) on the first anniversary of the September 11 terrorism attacks in America.

The tribute was led by Okehampton Town Mayor Christine Marsh who was joined by town clerk John Winchester, councillors, other town dignitaries and shoppers.

Many businesses came to a standstill at 1.46pm yesterday as people remembered the 3,000 who were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York and other acts of terrorism in Washington and Pennsylvania.
