DOMESTIC violence is as much of a problem in West Devon as it is anywhere else, according to the Crime Reduction Partnership. The issue of domestic violence is being highlighted on Monday November 26, when a ?silent march? will go through Okehampton. The CRP reports there have been more than 8,000 incidents of domestic violence recorded in Devon last year, with abuse being physical, psychological, sexual or financially related. However, it is thought many incidents go unreported. Domestic Violence Week starts on Monday and aims to highlight abuse and encourage people to report it. It is also to make people aware that support is available for victims and families, and for perpetrators who want to change their abusive behaviour. The march leaves Okehampton Police Station at 12.30pm and will go through the town centre, Market Street and School Way before finishing at the Ockment Centre. Volunteers and women?s aid groups will be marching with banners and placards to help raise awareness of the issues of domestic violence. The march will last for approximately half an hour with refreshments at the Ockment Centre.
