I WAS in Tavistock's new library last Friday week and saw a group of children enjoying listening to a talented story-teller.

How enterprising of the staff to encourage children to use the library and enjoy themselves, such a difference from the old fashioned idea that silence is preferred.

Children need to be encouraged to realise that the written and spoken word are as much fun as TV and computer games.

So, congratulations, Tavistock Library.
