Tavistock U15s 10

BRIGHT sunshine encouraged some sparkling rugby from Tavistock at this three-way fixture hosted by Crediton.

The first match saw some fine runs from the backs as they swept downhill towards the Cullompton line only to be edged out metres short.

The second half was all about defence with most of the play taking place in the Tavistock 22. Time and again big hits were called for with notable contributions from Thompson, Lawson and Campbell, the latter also making some excellent clearance kicks.

The second match saw the forwards frequently combine together well to form a driving maul, with Walker in particular to the fore.

Crediton, despite the advantage of playing downhill, were penned in their own half through aggressive defence from White assisted by Maund and, from a quickly taken penalty, Shutler managed to round his opposite number to score in the corner.

Crediton responded with some concerted backplay and managed to touch down at the end of the half.

At the turnaround there were some excellent handling moves and a stampeding break by Jenns, carried on by Vella, was unlucky not to result in a try. But a score soon followed. Following a run on the right wing by Mason and some good mauling by Jenns, Thompson made a half break infield and made a long pass to Ewing. He cut downhill before transferring the ball to Lawson whose well timed pass enabled Shutler to scamper in for his second score and the best try of the season.
