IS Tavistock Town Council's declaration that the proposed marqees would visually enhance the appearance of Bedford Square — the first thing visitors see — a belated admission that this sea of miserable grey granite really does need brightening up?
The tents will not be there all the time, so are they now prepared to give consideration to my plea for some raised beds, shrubs and ornamental trees? These do not need to be extensive and take up a lot of space, nor expensive.
And do visitors really enjoy sitting in the regimented back-to-back seats with fly-infested rubbish cans alongside? They need relocating.
Solving these problems without restricting the usefulness of the square is really quite simple. It just requires a little imagination.
Are we at long last (hopefully) beginning to see a little glimmer of it?
