OKEHAMPTON Station is to host cycle training for children during the Easter holidays.

Bikeability courses teach cycle proficiency and Devon County Council is funding training across the county, helping children to gain the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's road.

The training is divided into different levels. Level one training is for children aged from six and over to help them develop their basic bicycle handling skills with exercises and fun games in a traffic-free environment.

Level two is for children aged nine and over to develop cycling skills in a traffic-free environment before progressing on to quiet local roads with real traffic conditions, and level three is advanced cycling for children for aged eleven and over who have already completed level two.

The station will host level three training on Tuesday, April 9 from 8.45am to 12.45pm or from 1pm to 5pm. The session is completely free.

Cllr Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: 'There are a wide variety of locations offering different levels of Bikeability training over the Easter break.

' Bikeability is the best possible cycle training for schoolchildren, equipping them with skills which improve their road safety awareness and boost confidence.

'Parents can be reassured that their children will be learning how to eventually make short cycling journeys on the road, such as cycling to school.'
