Rowett Insurance East Cornwall League Cup Group A Morwenstow 4 Bere Alston Utd 2 BERE Alston, with new manager Kevin Taylor and a bare eleven, Ian Crabb donning the gloves, started well and should have taken the lead, but a crazy 15-minute spell saw Morewenstow score three goals. Despite this Bere showed spirit which had been lacking in the past few weeks and dominated the rest of the half, hitting the woodwork twice. They scored five minutes into the second half with a Nathan Harvey shot parried into the path of Chris Truscott who made no mistake. Bere were rampant and scored again through a beauty from Zac Beesley. Against the run of play Morewenstow scored. Bere were unlucky to lose, but the result still sees them qualify second in the group and they will draw a home tie in the knock out stage. No fixture Saturday. Bodmin Trophies Duchy Division 3 Polperro 3 Bere Alston Utd 2 A DEPLETED Bere without many players because of injury and work fought heroically against a division higher opponents. Polperro attacked from the off and met the brilliance of keeper Tony Rawlings, who for 30 minutes seemed to be playing Polperro by himself. He was beaten by a penalty and their second came when Bere?s defence failed to clear. Bere woke and Brad Harvey got on the end of a centre to divert the ball past the Polperro keeper. Straight from the start of the second half Darren Philips ran clear and his centre was controlled and volleyed home by Ross Hann. With play even, it needed something special to beat Tony Rawlings, and this happened - a 30 yard rocket a foot off the ground and home before anybody moved. Bere created and missed chances and despite more brilliant keeping by Rawlings Polperro won. This Saturday Duchy Three Padstow, home, kick-off 2.30pm.
