IT is again time for village flower shows, and preparations are well in hand at Meavy where the garden society offers visitors an opportunity to become a judge of flowers and plants at their show on Saturday August 11. Visitors receive a voting slip, to select their personal choice of the best entry in each of the 16 classes, providing competitions for cut flowers, shrubs, pot plants, flower arrangements, and vegetables. An innovation this year is the introduction of a class for three varieties of herbs growing in a container. The counting of visitors? votes by computer is assisted by Tim Lambie, whose business chezvouspc.com, is based in the village. Light refreshments are available throughout the afternoon, plants from local gardens will be on sale, and there will be a raffle. The show takes place at Meavy Parish Hall, just across the green from the Royal Oak Inn, from 1pm. There is free parking at the rear of the hall and entry to the show is 50p per adult.
