Carlsberg South Western League Cup quarter-final

Saltash 2

Tavistock 0

WITH the fierce wind in their backs for the first half the Lambs never extended Saltash's keeper James Dungey, Jaimie Carwardine and Chris Gott putting efforts wide. But Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds had to be on his toes, saving from Jamie Morgan and Michael Preston.

The Ashes applied the pressure at the start of the second half with the Lambs unable to get out of their half for any sustainable period. The home side finally broke through on 59 minutes as Paul Adcock's crossfield ball found Ross Saint racing in to slot a first-time shot past Meeds.

Twelve minutes later the match was put beyond doubt as Tavistock lost the ball in midfield and it was cut back from the by-line for the unmarked Saint to pick his spot from six yards.

The strong wind was a major factor in this game but it was a disappointing display from a shot-shy Lambs' attack.

Torpoint 1

Tavistock 0

THE Lambs were missing the unavailable Chris Gott and the injured Nathan Blamey for this rearranged Sunday fixture and there was a strong wind blowing at the Mill.

It went wrong for them at the kick-off when they were rocked by one of the quickest goals of the season. James Cole's kick deep into Torpoint's half was immediately returned over the top of the defence for Brian Stacey to go down the line and cross low for Sam Mathews to arrive at the far post and shoot low under Andy Meeds.

The Lambs never recovered from this early shock as the home side continued to attack and could have gone in at half time further ahead but for a goal-line clearance and Meeds saving from Mike Roberts after 33 minutes.

With the wind in their backs the Lambs bucked up in the second half. Mark Wall volleying over from six yards after Craig Hodge had set him up.

Meeds saved again from Roberts and Darren Babb's last ditch tackle prevented Stacey with scoring chances on 62 and 63 minutes.

Stacey got clear again of the Lambs' defence and following a goalmouth scramble the ball was cleared to leave Meeds prostrate on the ground. After lengthy treatment from physio Les Mewton he was able to continue and again he saved to prevent Roberts from adding to the home side's total.

In the dying moments the Lambs' best chance went agonisingly wide when Wall's volley hit the upright, bounced back and hit Zinn to go behind for a corner. From it the ball was cleared off the line and Parnowski blasted over.
