JUST weeks after the glitz and glamour of the Chagford Film Festival, the town has now played host to the filming of a locally produced film.

A number of locations around Chagford have been used, including Chagford Parish Church, in the shooting of 'The Ballad of Mary Whyddon' by Chagford Filmmaking Group.

The film will tell the story of Mary Whyddon, a young bride shot on her wedding day in 1641, as England was on the brink of civil war. No-one was ever charged with her murder, but her tombstone in the chancel of Chagford Parish Church reads 'Behold a matron and yet a maid'.

It is the first project for the group since 2010's 'Sir Lanval', based on the medieval story written for the court of Henry II by Marie de France. The cast and extras are all giving their time free of charge.

The film will have its opening at the Exeter Playhouse cinema in spring 2012. It will be the eighth film made by the group and director Elizabeth-Jane Baldry since she founded the group in 2004.
