THIS year the Bere Alston Bowling Club open Shortmat competition was held over two days. It proved to be so popular in previous years that many teams were being turned away. Club chairman Ken Bellchambers said: 'We decided to run two competitions, one on Saturday and a second on Sunday, with 16 teams competing on each day. 'Bere Alston school hall was the venue and the place was buzzing on both days.' On Saturday Landrake took the trophy, narrowly beating Saltash. On Sunday Saltash were again the runners up with the trophy going to Dobwalls. A successful weekend with several teams already signed up for next year.
