A REDUCTION in police cover in the Calstock parish has 'horrified' parish councillors, who have decided to write to the Chief Constable and South East Cornwall MP Colin Breed. Callington Police Station, which covers Calstock and Gunnislake, currently only has a sergeant and one police community support officer (PCSO) in its neighbourhood beat team. PCSO Nicole Garcia, who was responsible for the Calstock parish, left the station for a new post in Plympton in January and has not yet been replaced and neighbourhood beat manager Jim Hunter has moved onto patrol duties. Cllr Ian Kirk said he found out about the current police situation in the Times. 'I read with some horror that we have a sergeant and one community officer and that is it,' he said. 'The police are saying they are going to replace Nicole but it has not happened yet.' Councillors said the police should have had a replacement lined up because they knew three months in advance that Nicole was leaving. Sergeant Brett Phillips recently told the Times that there would be replacements for Jim Hunter and PCSO Garcia. PCSO cover would be supplied by two officers from Saltash until the next batch of recruitments later in the year.
