Carlsberg South Western League

Falmouth 3

Tavistock 0

THERE was obviously too much celebrating after the Pertemps Cup victory with the Lambs travelling to Bickland Park with five players missing from midweek.

They welcomed back Chris Gott who missed the cup game but were unfortunate to lose him after just five minutes of play with a muscle injury.

With a strong wind in their favour Falmouth took advantage in the first half but despite a large amount of possession were woefully off target on several occasions. When they did get on target Lambs keeper Andy Meeds coped easily.

The second half was a different affair and Falmouth took the lead after 54 minutes when Dave Sweet went up the wing unchallenged to cross for Justin Ashburn to head home.

Meeds brought off a great double save then Steve Daymond was cynically tripped as he got clear of the last defender. Fifteen minutes later the Lambs found themselves two down when Ashburn became provider to send in a cross that Carl Turner volleyed in at the far post.

The Lambs had two good chances to draw level as Graeme Kirkup moved forward to supply Simon Parnell who let in Mark Wall, but his low drive was blocked by keeper White.

Sub James Yates found himself clear on goal but White saved his first shot then saw his rebounded effort go past his post.

Victory for the Shipbuilders was sealed a minute from time when Damien Stevens pounced on a deflected ball to curl his shot into the top corner.

Tavistock: Andy Meeds, Rob Hawkins, James Cole, Graeme Kirkup, Chris Abbott, Darren Babb, Chris Gott (sub Adrian Payne 5m (sub James Yates 75m), Mark Wall, Simon Parnell, John Hajiyanni (sub Pete Gibson 60m), Steve Daymond.

l The only fixture that remains for the Lambs is the long haul to Porthleven on Wednesday May 8 for their final league game, kick-off 7.45pm.

In between will be the Carlsberg South Western League Cup Final between Liskeard and St Blazey at Langsford Park on Monday May 6 with a 3pm kick-off.
