A SCHOOL project on volcanoes and natural disasters has led to Winkleigh Primary School children raising £102.25 for charity.
ShelterBox volunteers Jerome Lyons and Michael Mant visited the school on?Monday to discuss with pupils the important work done by the charity in the aftermath of natural disasters.
The visit was the latest part of a project on volcanoes, earthquakes and other disasters.
Pupils were also allowed to come to school in non-uniform clothes for a donation to the charity.
The £102.25 raised will go towards paying for a ShelterBox for a family who have lost everything following a natural disaster.
Children got to look at the emergency shelter and lifesaving equipment that goes into a ShelterBox, including a stove, water purification kit and mosquito nets.
They also heard about the charity's work, and saw how such disasters directly affect the lives of people across the world.
Michael Mant was delighted with the visit: 'The children have really engaged with us today, and have seemed really interested in what we have talked about. It is really encouraging to see.
'Visits like this to schools and scout groups are very important and hopefully they encourage children to support the charity in the future.'
