Tavistock 2

Dawlish 2

THE lack of availability coupled with the preference for playing 2nd team hockey resulted in Tavistock travelling to Dawlish with an understrength team.

With captain Lethbridge sidelined due to injury Tavistock began the game in what can only be described as appalling conditions.

Tavistock began the stronger and took the lead after only two minutes when Tom Honey bundled the ball into the waterlogged goal.

Tavistock continued with solid passing moves involving Wilson, Cowen Jnr, Lovett and Honey Snr. Conditions were not improving. Tavistock continued to play well as a unit but Dawlish equalised somewhat against the play following defensive errors by Tavistock.

The second half was more even and with Dawlish creating more chances Tavistock defended well with some good tackles being made by Cowen Snr and Oli Thomas.

Tavistock?s forwards always looked dangerous and following a strong run and shot from Lovett, Honey Jnr scored with an exquisite reverse stick shot. Tavistock again took control and had chances to extend their lead but were foiled by the Dawlish goalkeeper.

Tavistock were to rue their missed chances when, again against the run of play, Dawlish equalised with a sharp finish.

Man of the match this week was the experienced Bob Cowen who rolled back the years with a great performance.
