HOUSEHOLDERS across West Devon are opening their doors this weekend, to share what they have done to reduce their energy bills, conserve energy and in some cases generate it from a renewable source.
The open homes weekend, between 10am and 4pm this Saturday and Sunday (January 18 and 19), will provide an opportunity to discuss with people what they have done, why, and how they have done it, the problems they have encountered, their successes, future plans and how visitors may be able to apply these to their own homes.
Visitors can travel to any of the properties with their own transport, or can join one of the mini-bus or walking tours.
There will be four open homes in Tavistock, boasting solar powered devices, heat generation from a nearby river, wood pellet stoves and a wind turbine.
Another four homes will be open in Brentor, Peter Tavy and Sampford Spiney, including air source and ground source heat pumps, owners who harvest hedges for fuel and generate methane gas supply from food waste.
There will also be a home open in Millhill, three in the Bere Peninsula, one in Morwellham, one in Roborough and one in Tamerton Foliot.
Details of all the properties and the weekend's programme can be found at http://www.transitiontavistock.org.uk">www.transitiontavistock.org.uk and places for the tours can be booked through the website or by emailing [email protected]">[email protected] or 07969 569444.
