TAVISTOCK College has welcomed seven community figures to its board of governors to help establish its status as an outstanding school.
The governors have years of experience teaching in schools, serving on governing bodies and working for the Tavistock community.
Chair of governors, Mandy Govier, said: 'As the governors seek to appoint a new principal and establish the college as the outstanding school we all believe it should be, we need the enthusiasm and commitment of people like this to make our community proud of their school.
'We are delighted to have such a rich blend of experience in the people joining the college governors.
'Alan Jones has immense knowledge from being a governor in a number of schools and Ashley Tossell was a teacher and head of department at Tavistock College for over 30 years.'
New governor Alan Wroath worked as vice-principal at the college for 15 years and was headteacher of Launceston College for 12, while Peter Rodgers has been a GP in Tavistock for more than 20 years and a primary school governor.
Philip Sanders sits on Devon County and West Devon Borough Councils and serves as deputy mayor of Tavistock; Mike Allen is an accountant at Princess Yachts in Plymouth and is an experienced governor; and Max Laithwaite works with environmental group Westden.
