VISITORS to a Tavistock pub were last weekend treated to a special surprise, in the form of an impromptu musical session featuring rising young folk star Seth Lakeman. The Trout and Tipple had been holding one of its popular beer festivals and invited friend and local musician Steve Potter along to round off the festival with some music on Sunday night. Landlady Julie Payne said: ?Steve just said he?d be coming down with the fiddle and a couple of the boys ? I never know who is going to turn up, but Geoff, Seth?s Dad came ? and so did Seth! ?It was just such a lovely surprise ? and it?s so lovely that he will still come to a local pub and do this sort of thing, but apparently he just loves music and loves these sort of jamming sessions.? Julie said initially customers did not realise they had a Mercury Award nominee in their midst ? but it wasn?t long before regulars recognised Seth. ?I think some of them were pretty gobsmacked,? said Julie. ?But it was just lovely to see him play with his Dad like that.? The Trout and Tipple will be holding a mini beer festival featuring real ales from Teignworthy Brewery between November 17 and 19 ? it remains to be seen whether another musical surprise will be in store . . .!
