A MAN who admitted burgling an animal charity store in Tavistock will be sentenced next month.

David Knight, 31, of Rodda Close, Gunnislake, pleaded guilty at Plymouth Crown Court this week to burgling the Woodside Animal Welfare charity shop in Tavistock on November 12 last year.

The court heard Knight had thrown a wheel-brace through the window of the shop to gain entry before taking a large cash box, made out of an old television, which contained around £200.

Witnesses said they saw a person carrying the item and putting it into a car and were able to give police partial details of a number plate.

Police traced the car to Knight's home but when questioned he claimed he had met someone who had asked him to do a favour and drive his car to Tavistock. However, Knight pleaded guilty to the charge this week.

His advocate, Iain Leadbetter, said Knight had a 'background' involving drugs but 'for the first time he is clear' of them.

Judge Paul Darlow adjourned sentencing until February 15 to allow for a probation report to be compiled on Knight, who he remanded into custody.
