SENSATIONAL vocalist Sheena Davis, who has been likened to Eva Cassidy & Dinah Washington brings her band to six Devon villages in October and November as part of the Villages In Action programme.
On Friday, October 31 she will be appearing at the Church Hall, Church Road, Bere Ferrers.
This date is part of a nationwide tour, which will include a week's residency at the world famous Ronnie Scott's Club in London.
A superb artist singing superb songs, Sheena's repertoire spans the decades. Drawing on classic jazz and show songs by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Dean Martin blended with material by Carole King, Ray Charles and Madness, the music appeals to a wider audience not usually attracted to jazz.
The band's driving grooves and high energy have also made the group one of the most popular acts on the rapidly growing London swing dance circuit. Add to that Sheena's stunning voice and dynamic stage presence and you have a consumate performer.
Formerly the lead singer with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, in 2001 Sheena won the British Gas 'Tomorrow's People Award', and this year has been included in the 'Who's Who Of British Jazz'. The band already has the highly acclaimed album 'Smile' under its belt and has just released the follow-up 'Young At Heart'.
Sheena will be accompanied by her impressive backing band — Robert Rickenberg, double bass; Nick Tomalin, piano and Dylan Howe, drums. Between them have played for a wide range of stars such as John Dankworth, Jim Mullen, Tom Jones, Spike Robinson, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, The Fun Lovin' Criminals, Mark Murphy and Paul McCartney.
Friday October 31.
