SENIOR councils are to be set up in Okehampton and Tavistock to give people a say in how services are planned and delivered. The move follows successful public meetings in the two towns. In Okehampton, Devon County Council has asked the group to put forward suggestions about the sort of community facilities that might be incorporated into the extra care housing development on the old Castle Hospital site. And in both areas the groups have been asked to nominate representatives to contribute to West Devon Council?s housing strategy review. The groups hope to attract more members, particularly from more rural areas. Each body now has a steering group and over the next months will be contacting parish, town and the borough council to see how they can work together on issues which are important to people aged over 50.
