U16 Devon Cup Final Okehampton 13 Bideford 5 PLAYING up the slope with wind advantage Okehampton enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges. Gradually the visitors began to work their way up field where it became the Okes? turn to defend. They proved as resilient as Bideford and again broke away and were awarded a penalty that Liam Walker converted to give the Okes a 3-0 lead. With the advantage of the slope, the second half began with the home side again putting Bideford under constant pressure. The Okes constant threat eventually brought its rewards when they forced the visitors into an error close to their line . From the resultant scrum the excellent Barrington broke from the base of the scrum to charge over for a try under the posts. Walker converted. Bideford came back at the Okes with a vengeance and the home side were forced into an extended period of defending. The pressure eventually paid off for Bideford when their No.7 dived over for an unconverted try from a line out close to the Okes? line. The Okes then set about regaining some control over the game and from some astute kicking and some sharp play from Jamie Dart at scrumhalf they again took the game back at the visitors. Prop Martin Moyse who came on at half time was proving a real force in the scrum where he enabled the Okes to gain the upper hand. The Okes were awarded a penalty from the visitors continued indiscipline and Liam Walker converted to establish a 13-5 advantage. The remainder of the game was largely a stalemate with the Okes maintaining their discipline and shape against passionate opponents who were unable to match their host?s focus and composure . Men of the match : Oli Kay and Josh Mossman This result sees the Okes Under 16s through to the semi final of the Devon Cup which will be played at Oaklands on March 19 against Ivybridge.
