TOBY Ryan, of the Lamerton Pony Club, has been selected to represent Britain in the International Tetrathlon to be held in America and Canada this summer. Only four members, aged 21 and under, have been chosen from Britain to compete against the best of the Irish, American and Canadian clubs in shooting, riding, running and swimming. Lamerton Pony Club has a strong tradition in tetrathlon and Toby is following in the footsteps of Daniel Preece, also of Lamerton and a member of the last British team to tour America in 2002. Toby was a late comer to pony club competitions, beginning at the age of 15, and has worked very hard to achieve his successes. He has competed at the last four tetrathlon National Championships and has been a member of the winning south west team at three of the prestigious Regional Championships. He also competes at the related Olympic discipline of Modern Pentathlon. Toby has just completed a BSc Science degree in Health Exercise and Sport and will be starting a second degree course in physiotherapy in September.

He trains at Launceston Swimming Club with John Rhodes and has been supported by Launceston Horse and Rider, Eqwest Veterinary Group and Warrens Butchers, and he is very grateful indeed for their support. Lamerton Pony Club are very proud of Toby, and indeed of all our tetrathletes, who put a great deal of effort into their chosen sport - in Toby?s case this has led to deserved recognition and we wish him well.
