THE Green Party in West Devon and Torridge has selected its standard bearer for the next general election. Cathrine Simmons, a housing development officer with Mid Devon District Council, lives in Torrington where she is a town councillor. She joined the Green Party in 1983 and was a Torridge District Cllr from 1987 to 1991. Following her selection, she said: ?I wish to bring some real pressure to bear on the Government, whatever its shade, to build on and strengthen green sustainable policies that will help consolidate the future for the generations yet to come. ?I feel that there is nothing more vital than the climate change agenda, yet most people probably share with me the intense disappointment at the lack of future planning by UK governments for the next 30 years. ?I am particularly against the nuclear power option for energy production.?
