RECENTLY my son and I visited Gunnislake, researching family history. Since returning home, it occurs to me that descendants may still live in the area and perhaps your readers may be able to help.

My grandmother, Annie Louise Jane Davey, was born in 1894 at 24 Calstock Road, Gunnislake. I think her brothers were John, William, Albert, Norman and perhaps Garfield. Her father, John Henry Davey, was a master butcher and also superintendent of the Methodist Sunday school. He died at Tavistock Market in 1900, aged 46. Her mother was born Ann Alford, daughter of Peter Alford, blacksmith, who lived in Chapel Street.

If any reader knows of the above families, or is a descendant, then it would be very much appreciated if they would kindly contact me at [email protected]">[email protected] or 80 Ware Street, Bearsted, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 4PG. I will be keeping my fingers crossed!
