Devon Cricket League B Division Tavistock 2nds v Brixham 2nd XI TAVISTOCK won the toss and inserted Brixham. Accurate earlier spells from Thomas, 2-21, and Gliddon, 3-41, contained the early batsmen but an 83 run partnership from Newman, 61, and Barton, 49, put Brixham in a strong position. It was left to veteran John Rich to roll back the years to take two wickets in one over. Then the return of Gliddon and Thomas kept the visitors to exactly 200, when 250 plus looked on the cards. Tavistock had a good start with 40 on the board before the first wicket fell, Johns for 17; Strawbridge 26, soon followed and Tavistock were wobbling. Then the partnership of 80 runs that won the game came together, with captain McGahey, 36, and Stuart Down. When McGahey was bowled, Stuart Down continued to take the attack to Brixham, finally being run out on 84, one run from victory. This game was won when Thomas ran a bye with four balls to spare. Tavistock 18 points, Brixham 8.
