Clyst St George seconds v
Yelverton seconds.
YELVERTON'S Chris Pearson won the toss and elected to field first on a warm and muggy afternoon in East Devon. Opening bowler Tony Carter's first delivery found the edge of K Coe's bat and went through the vacant first slip area. At the end of the first over skipper Scott, held up by traffic, took the field and the gap was plugged.
The Clyst batsman pounced on any loose delivery, with A Welsh being the main aggressor. The Clyst opening pair took their opening partnership to 34 off seven overs, before Pearson had Welsh (17) well caught by Ben Vince on the short off-side boundary.
The second wicket pair of Coe and Anning put on 55 off the next 18 overs until Coe was dismissed lbw by leg-spinner Ben Vince's for 42. S May joined Anning and the pair put on 42 until Anning was caught by wicket keeper Jason Degg for 33 with the score 131 off 32.3 overs.
May and Paul Laverick upped the tempo with some lusty blows putting on a quick-fire 48 off six overs. Laverick was bowled for 16 by Rich West, who then also sent back skipper Besley for six with the score on 195-5 off 40 overs. May, assisted by Payne and Richardson took the final innings total to 236-7 with May the last wicket to fall caught by Gerry Keen on the long-on boundary after scoring 86 off 59 balls with 12 fours and three sixes. Pearson took 2-45 and West 2-27 for the visitors.
The Bohemians set off with some purpose with both Jason Degg and Rich West hitting early boundaries. Degg was adjudged lbw for 10 off the bowling of Hazel, who then dismissed Richard Porritt for the same score.
Rich West blasted a six over mid-wicket but was then acrobatically caught by Besley in the slips off Hazel for 16. Veterans Gerry Keen and Jerry Warland took the sting out of the Clyst bowlers with a 40 plus partnership for the fourth wicket, but the dismissal of Warland, bowled by Anning for 19 was soon followed by Ash Staines for a duck, caught and bowled and then Keen for 29 to leave the Bohemians 100-6.
Skipper Scott joined youngster Matt Tamsett and the pair took the score past the 100 mark but N Guest accounted for Tamsett, chipping a return catch back to the bowler. Pearson followed with a duck, lbw. The Bohemians were eight wickets down and a long way from securing a losing draw, with only number 11 Tony Carter to come. However Scott and Ben Vince put on a partnership of more than 60 runs for the ninth wicket to secure the two points for the losing draw and a couple of extra batting points in the process. Scott remained unbeaten on 46 at the close and Vince on 16.
The Bohemians slipped a place in the table and need a win away to Brixham to keep pace with the leaders.
