Devon Merit League
Tavistock seconds 54
Teignmouth seconds 12
Playing down the slope, Tavistock dominated the first half, scoring seven tries. The first came after five minutes when left wing Joe Lane finished off a handling move.
Prop Jason Ward was next after a rolling maul from the pack. Lock Darrin Cole then applied the finish after a strong run from fellow lock Lee Easton.
Scrumhalf Josh Sutton then sniped a try from a five metre scrum. Fullback Ian Gray ran in after a good move involving the backs and forwards. Flanker Dale Thompson was on hand to take the scoring pass after a fine move from the backs.
Easton finished off another good handling move. Flyhalf Mark Hennessey converted five of the tries, to leave Tavistock ahead 47-0 at the interval.
The second half was a much harder tussle for the home side, playing up the slope and the visitors started to put together some good attacks of their own.
They scored two tries, one of which was converted. In reply, Tavistock could only manage one more converted try, scored by flanker Dave Rawles, who rumbled his way over after a series of drives from the pack.
Another good team performance from the seconds, with outstanding contributions from Darrin Cole and hooker Marc Kerswill.
This Saturday, the seconds are at home to Okehampton thirds, in a Merit league game, kickoff 3pm.
