Wadebridge Camels seconds 24
TAVISTOCK played hosts to Wadebridge in their last warm up game wanting to get a good performance in before their first league game this week.
The hosts started strongly dominating the set play and gaining good yardage but unable to convert this into points due to solid defence by Wadebridge. Some wise play by Tavistock around the fringes led to second row Gareth Buttock going over the whitewash in the corner. This score was closely followed by full back Simon Braithwaite crossing in the opposite corner after quick hands by the Tavistock backs.
The hosts kept piling on the pressure ending in prop Josh O'Neill going over from five metres which was converted by Josh Sutton. Tavistock started putting some phases together and strong runs from number eight and new man Chris Morton put Tavistock deep in the visitors' half.
Tavistock kept hammering at the defence through centre McDowall and eventually a hole appeared for Braithwaite to grab his second. There was another try before half time — this time for Wadebridge, who spreading it wide to the right, went in at the corner and successfully converted. Tavistock went into the break leading 22-7.
Tavistock started the second half strongly —getting the ball wide to new winger Ben Hadfield who on his way for his first try for the club broke through two tackles and was clear, only to put the ball down five metres short of the line. Good ball for Tavistock's backs ended in Callum Harding showing his step and pace to go round his opposite man for a try. The visitors started throwing the ball around and making good ground only to lose possession which Tavistock took advantage of and ending in a try for veteran John Bellamy.
Wadebridge not going down without a fight started breaking the Tavistock defence through their strong running centre who went over for their second try. The visitors kept testing their opponents leading to another try bringing them within two scores. There was some end to end rugby before Tavistock's Harding showed his pace to go over for his second.
Wadebridge came back through some swift handling leading to a huge overlap on the left hand side for them to score. Tavistock finished on a high by scoring two tries in quick succession, the first by full back Braithwaite, giving him his hat- trick, and the last an individual effort by Charlie Telfer running three quarters of the pitch to give Tavistock a well deserved victory.
