South Zeal 3

THIS eagerly awaited derby usually produces a closely competitive match and this was no exception.

Okehampton got off to the best possible start with only minutes on the clock when Tim Sanderson was adjudged to have pushed Jason Sandford in the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Chris Drew opened the scoring with the kick. Okehampton continued to press and when Neil Agnew went in chase of a ball he had no right to get to, and put in a superb cross for Drew calmly to pick his spot past Zeal keeper Neil Clift.

Okehampton extended their lead when Dave Grimes took a quick free kick with Zeal napping and from Chris Wills pinpoint centre, Tim Shaw beat Clift with a neat header.

The second half saw Nick Jones come on for Martyn Letchford and Tom Williams for Daniel Pengelly. Williams scored Okehampton?s fourth with a lovely running lob which Clift could only get his fingertips to.

Okehampton then went into over confident mode and Zeal saw a glimmer when Reg Wonnacott stabbed home from close range after two fine efforts at saving from Okehampton keeper Scott Leyman.

Zeal began to take more control and scored their second from a close-range header from a corner.

The crowd were then treated to an exciting finish when Nick Jones pushed his opponent in the box and Steve Pillivant scored from the spot. Okehampton reshuffled for the final minutes and held on for the points.

This Sunday, Okehampton meet Newtown in the Okehampton Cup 2.30pm kick-off.

Silverton 2

TIM Shaw opened the account from a quick throw-in which caught the home side napping and he coolly picked his spot.

Minutes later James Callaghan battled well for possession and his saved effort was put away by Chris Drew.

Silverton looked shell-shocked and Drew scored his second after fine work from Roger Voaden.

A persistant chase right up to the keeper from Tom Williams gave the striker his rewards with another goal.

The home side were all over the place and when their defence stopped for an offside call the referee waved play on and Jason Sandford tapped home coolly.

Silverton pulled one back but Okehampton responded with Shaw lobbing the keeper after good work from Callaghan. Silverton scored another but Okehampton made it look simple when Sandford drilled the ball home after good work on the left from Andrew Smith.

Drew completed his hat-trick with a neat finish from a fine Sandford cross but not before Scott Leyman pulled off two outstanding saves at the other end.
