TAVISTOCK Squash Club found themselves on home territory against Newton Abbot.

The previous week they achieved a narrow 3-2 victory at Paignton largely due to the efforts of Tavistock number 1, Steve Tripp who early in the deciding match suffered a bruising ankle injury but managed to put it behind him to bring victory for himself and the team against strong opposition.

The fixture against Newton Abbot proved somewhat easier with three of the matches being straightforward 3-0 wins for Steve Tripp, Colin Grice and Tim Wallis playing at numbers 1,3 and 5 respectively.

The other two matches of the evening were more hotly contested by Newton Abbot.

At number 4 Stuart Cox of Tavistock, playing some of his best squash this season, took a 3-2 win over Gerry Paris of Newton Abbot.

In a hard fought match both players' rallying ability and fitness made for a thrilling contest, with Stuart finally having the legs over his opponent.

Andy Gauler at number 2 found himself paired against an equally competitive and fit opponent. In an exciting hard fought match Andy was unfortunate not to take the one or two crucial points in any game that give victory or defeat.

This 4-1 victory should maintain the team in their current position of second in the league. The final fixture of the millennium is this week against Westcountry.
