Duchy division 1 Maker with Rame 2 Lamerton 5 LAMERTON, still missing key players, put on a good performance to keep them in second place. The venue of Millbrook?s South Western ground enabled a some good passing and attacking play. The first half was very up and down for both sides. Lamerton took the lead through Dave Byworth. He followed in at the back post and scrambled home Steve Wickett?s effort across goal, but Maker equalised soon after. James Healy was robbed on the edge of the box, and Wes Latimer seemed to walk through the Lamerton defence to score. Dan Healy got down the left to the by-line, beating the keeper and teeing up Wickett, but his strike was astonishingly cleared off the line. Maker then missed an open goal, before Lamerton scored again. Steve Gibbings, who was outstanding on the day, shook off a defender and took it on to score, but Lamerton, who were very slack on occasions allowed another equaliser before half time. Kev Swift tripped Glyn Davies in the box and Davies converted the penalty. Lamerton were still confident, knowing they had played the better football and created some good chances. Pete Broomfield made it 3-2 ten minutes after the break, via some mayhem in the area, and Steve Wickett scored the all important fourth. A good move down the left saw Wickett advance on the keeper, taking it round him with ease and tapping home. Maker, who relied on the counter attack, were now all but buried, and Lamerton got a fifth goal. James Healy sprinted onto a through ball, and was scythed down by the last man. The referee sensibly only gave a yellow, with 5 minutes remaining, and Wickett scored from the spot. Duchy division 1 Gerrans 0 Lamerton 7 NEW Year?s Eve unfortunately saw Lamerton travel 60 miles to the Cornish coast. They arrived to a gigantic pitch and slope, and with a strong wind blowing down the hill, a game of two halves was expected. Gerrans chose the hard half first and did well to keep Lamerton?s tally to three, especially after Steve Wickett scored inside five minutes. He advanced on the keeper and neatly lofted in. Steve Gibbings scored the goal of the match for number two. His first time strike on the edge of the box, from Wickett?s firm pass was powerful and accurate, giving the keeper no chance. Wickett got the third, with Gibbings returning the favour as supplier. Lamerton were playing football, but not utilising the elements. Certain players feared the second half, but Gerrans never really put a decent move together and proved very disappointing on the day. A shot from kick off was among their best efforts. Wickett scored twice more in the second half, tapping home after the ball kindly dropped to his feet following a corner, and picking up a loose ball after Dan Healy pressurised the Gerrans back line. Healy got the sixth when Lee Wickett put him through for a sprint from half way, and although his first touch was poor, he managed to come back into the area and scuff in. Lee Wickett got the final goal, through good work from Mr Motivator Kev Swift. It was also Lamerton?s first clean sheet for three games, highlighting the importance of the returning Paul Breyley, partnering brother Simon to produce a faultless display at the heart of the defence.
