Tavistock U15s 12
Okehampton U15s 19
AFTER an excellent 24-0 win against Teignmouth the week before Okehampton carried on the good form.
The start of the first half was an even affair, but Tavistock looked set for a good win after scrum-half Alex Moy powered over for two tries before half-time.
But the home side began to wilt before half-time, clearly lacking match fitness having only played a few games since Christmas as Okehampton began to win early ball for their strong running threes. They replied with two quick tries from Tony Smith to end the first half level.
The second half continued in the same vein. Tristan Bedford showed up well in loose play and Sam White won good line-out ball.
The pressure paid off with Smith going over for a hat-trick. Ian Sercombe converted the final points.
There were some pleasing Tavistock performances, notably from Jack Derges in the pack and good tackling from Ian and Colin Jones in the back row. Chris Margarett played his best game on the wing as did Ian Smerdon at full back.

BOTH sides fielded combined under 9s and under 10s teams for this fixture.
From the outset the greater strength and experience of the Okehampton side was apparent and they had soon scored six times before the break. But the home team proved to be stronger opposition as the first half progressed.
In the second half Tavistock's improvement continued and good passing moves from Josh Leeson and Cameron Hogg enabled Elliot Hoyte to outpace the Okehampton defence for the first Tavistock try.
With good ball supplied by Rhys Durnford at scrum half, further Tavistock tries came from Rollo Whitehouse, Rhys Morgan and Mark Friend with one more from Okehampton in reply.
Strong tackling from Josh Stephens and Philip Snell in the backs prevented Okehampton from adding to their total on several occasions, but as the younger home side tired towards the end of the game the visitors scored three more times.

OKEHAMPTON opened the scoring, by running in two quick tries. This sparked Tavistock into action as captain for the day Jamie Stephens scored with a dash down the wing.
Jonty Newton added another try, doing well to support Conner Williams, Louis Ferguson made it 15-10 after a great breakaway try.
Okehampton responded with another two tries, and would have scored more but for Williams and Matthew Edwards, who defended brilliantly.
Edward Longden scored after stealthily dodging opposition tackles. Quickly Okehampton scored but Longden got his second try of the day and the equaliser in the dying seconds.
