Bude RFC U14s 33
Tavistock RFC U14s 25
TAVISTOCK started strongly using the ball well and were rewarded with the first score from a scrum in the Bude 10 metre line with a series of moves finished by Chris Swash placing the ball under the posts.
Bude possessed both strength and speed, coupled with the smart eye of their number eight which they used to devastating effect by running in four first half tries without response. Several tries came from Bude finding gaps in the defence and using pace to cover the ground to the line. The Tavistock cause was not aided by the high possession achieved by Bude through turnover ball.
Tavistock faced a 16 point deficit at half time but emerged for the second half with determination to negate Bude's first half breakaways.
Jake Johns on the wing opened the scoring for the visitors by demonstrating his speed and determination to get past two defenders to place the ball in the corner. This was followed by a Rhys Davies crossing, finishing a rolling maul initiated by the forwards dominated by Jack Crozier, Dominic Dewson and the evasive Kyle Maslen.
Tavistock took their eye off the game and allowed Bude a final breakaway try from their threequarters with a series of weak tackles.
Undaunted Rhys Davies for Tavistock made his second crossing with a ball which had been distributed across the field through a series of quick hands from a possession achieved by scrum half Frazer Bayliss.
In the closing minutes Jake Johns repeated his earlier performance in finishing a move set up by the backs to equal the Bude try scoring. The final result was however determined by the conversion count in favour of Bude.
Tavistock placed pressure on the Bude line on a number of occasions but was unable to place the ball down through Bude's well drilled defence .
This was a good game of rugby played in two halves with excellent spirit and sportsmanship by both teams.
