Duchy Premier St Columb Major 3 Gunnislake 2 MIDFIELDER Dean Martin returned for Gunnislake but had to play at centre half as recent signing Mark Dewhirst was injured. Martin looked anything but out of position as he had a solid game. Matt Avery was another injury casualty from the side that played last time out. Mid table Gunnislake took the game to their table topping opponents in the opening half an hour and created three good scoring chances. Jarryd Kelly and Dave Yorath were each denied by the Saints keeper but Steff Kelly did find the net. Stuart Wakenshaw?s corner was headed back to him by a defender and when Wakenshaw centred again Kelly rose highest to head home. Saints came more in to the match and equalised on 35 minutes. From an attack the visiting defence snuffed out the danger but when one of their midfield team mates got caught in possession the ball was swiftly returned in to the penalty area. This centre was only half cleared and an oncoming Saints player fired home. Mark Southcott then made a good save but from the resulting corner a Saints player headed home only seconds before the half time whistle. A Wakenshaw free kick was turned home from close range by Jarryd Kelly in the opening minute of the second half. The match was then end to end as both sides created and missed a few good chances before Saints struck five minutes from time. A second consecutive defeat for Gunnislake against title chasing opposition but again only by the odd goal and on a day when they could so easily have taken something from the match. This Saturday St Blazey visit Gunnislake for a 2pm kick off in the Premier cup.
