MEMBERS of the South East Cornwall National Trust Association were treated to view Cotehele’s resident boat The Shamrock recently.

The group was shown the boat by Cotehele’s general manager Iain Beaumont and a talk was given by Jo Lawrence.

Shamrock was built in the Stonehouse yard of Frederick Hawke as a Ketch rigged Tamar sailing barge in 1899.

It now has the distinction of being the last working Tamar sailing barge berthed at Cotehele Quay.

Members were then treated to a cream tea thanks to the funds raised and generous gifts given to Cotehele and other National Trust properties in the area over the past 14 years.

Iain expressed his thanks and said he was sad that the decision to close the association for the lack of members was inevitable and wished them luck for the future.
