WHITCHURCH Seconds finally recorded their first win of the season away at fellow strugglers Feniton. Whitchurch once again won the toss and invited the home side to bat first, although the pitch proved difficult to bowl on. Ingram made an early blow, removing Avery. Court and Abbott then added 30 for the second wicket before Heatley stepped up to the plate to rip the heart out of Feniton. He first dismissed Court for 12, then Sanders and Lawlor in successive balls to complete a hat-trick, all of which were bowled. Feniton soon crumbled further to 66 for 7, with Heatley adding three more to his wicket tally. Only a defiant 46 not out from Aussie Abbott enabled Feniton to post a score of over 100. Abbott added 33 with youngster Haydon as Whitchurch were briefly frustrated. However, Stokes cleaned up the tail with 2 for 0 in 5 balls. Feniton all out in 26 overs for 101. In reply, Hodge and Falconer batted very sensibly, with no urgency to score the runs. They had added 45 for the first wicket, although most were wides, before Falconer fell to Abbott. Freedman and Clapham saw Whitchurch to the brink of victory, with the winning run coming appropriately from a wide. Whitchurch took 19 points from this game and look forward to entertaining Thorverton this week.
