Okehampton ladies seconds 3
Mannamead ladies 0
OKEHAMPTON seconds faced top of the table Mannamead in their final league hockey fixture of the season.
Oke were determined to finish their season with a flourish and worked hard to pressurise the experienced Mannamead team.
Intially the home side were forced to defend as Mannamead attacked. Oke captain Katy Graves organised her defence well ensuring that there were no unmarked Mannamead attackers to shoot at goal. Goalie Jo Moppett made a crucial save at a critical stage in the game.
The seconds built on their solid defending and began to pass the ball accurately in midfield, moving well to create space for the forwards. Just before half time centre forward Eve Colton used her speed and skill to outwit the Mannamead defence and put her team in the league with a well executed goal.
Oke's relentless pressure and fast passing put them in control of the second half. Player of the match Amanda Sim and Tara Davidson were quick to pick up any loose ball and attack the Mannamead goal.
Okehampton's Eve Colton was now hungry for more goals and so confidently took on the Mannamead defence resulting in her hammering the ball past the goalie for her second goal.
Oke's energising play lead to a well deserved final goal for Grace Thorp and an emphatic victory for the West Devon side.
