SWEET wrappers and recycled plastic bags are just some of the more unusual materials used in an art exhibition being mounted at The Wharf in Tavistock.
The Tavistock Area Schools Council exhibition has an environmental theme and students from nine schools have contributed a wide variety of work using different media.
Children at St Rumon's Infant School kick off the exhibition with a large collage using natural objects to create a landscape including poly-prints and drawings.
Meavy schoolchildren have contributed a montage based on a trip to Wembury beach — a wall-hanging made entirely from recycled plastic bags and two paintings of Beaford Church. While Whitchurch Primary School has produced colourful leaf prints and graphic work based on packaging.
Tavistock College students included graphic design work in the form of carrier bags for the National Marine Aquarium and collages based on scrap materials.
Penny Cushing, art teacher at Tavistock College and exhibition co-ordinator, said: 'What is immediately evident about the exhibition is the high standard and enthusiasm shown by the students and the dedication of their teachers.
'The atmosphere of the exhibition is both tranquil and purposeful and contains many endearing images reflecting the children's perspective of their locality.'
She thanked everyone involved in the exhibition for their hard work including Chris Burchell at The Wharf and Andrew Cushing.
Other exhibits include animal collages by children from Princetown Primary School, while St Peter's School made wax texture rubbings of Tavistock buildings.
A large banner using wax crayons and ink wash was created by St Andrew's School at Buckland Monachorum and Lady Modiford's School students made a dramatic batik using silver materials and hand-made felt.
A pastel fish from Horrabridge Primary, an appliqué from Bere Alston School and watercolours from Gulworthy Primary form part of the exhibition on until March 25.
