A WEST Devon primary school is celebrating the award of the coveted Activemark Gold standard by Sport England in recognition of its commitment to promoting the benefits of physical activity.
St Rumon's Infants School in Tavistock is one of 31 schools nationally to have received the award, part of the Activemark scheme which follows the popular Sportsmark scheme for secondary schools.
Mags Long, headteacher at St Rumon's, said: 'This is a tremendous achievement for our school.
'We are delighted that Sport England has recognised our commitment to providing opportunities for physical activity, and the fact we provide a broad and balanced range of activities.'
Mrs Long said it was vital that the school's high academic standards were balanced with daily sport activities for all age groups.
'Our young children love being active and we think it is important to provide every opportunity for them to practice skills and gain confidence in their own physical ability,' she added.
