PUPILS from two Tavistock schools showed they had big hearts by giving Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in Eastern Europe.

Youngsters from St Rumon’s Infant School and St Peter’s Junior School took part in the ‘Love in a Box’ project organised by the Mustard Seed Relief Mission. The pupils take part every year and this year 93 boxes were collected, decorated and filled with various goodies.

The Mustard Seed Charity has been operating since 1992 and sends out much needed aid to disadvantaged children and young persons in Eastern Europe.

The Love in a Box project runs every Christmas and allows schools, businesses, churches and other organisations and individuals to fill shoe boxes with gifts for the children who would otherwise not receive a Christmas present.

Teacher at St Peter’s Ellie Charlesworth said: ‘The children all collected and filled their shoe boxes with toys, toiletries, small games, hats, gloves and scarves.

‘They’re always really good at doing the shoe boxes and they really enjoy it. The children are always very generous in spirit.’

The boxes have been collected from the school and sent out to Eastern Europe so the recipients can have them in time for Christmas.
