THE young rugby players of Bridestowe did their school proud when they celebrated an outstanding success in the Plymouth and West Devon Tag Rugby tournament.

Held at UCP Marjon in Plymouth with 72 schools taking part, Bridestowe School were successful as Small Schools champions.

On the back of this success, Bridestowe were invited to take part in the Devon County finals, which attracted the best 16 teams in the county. This pitted them against other primary schools, who were much larger in size with 400+ pupils in some cases.

The Bridestowe side played superbly to earn a very commendable sixth place overall - an excellent result by such a small school.

Mike Brady, the headteacher of Bridestowe School, told the Times: 'With more than 300 primaries in Devon, this really was a great achievement for a school of just 57 children. I am really proud of them.'
