PUPILS and staff at Okehampton Primary School are working hard to make improvements to the food culture at the school with themed dinners.
Children recently enjoyed a cowboy-style lunch with an American atmosphere being created with bunting and table decorations. The most exciting surprise on the day was when the kitchen and dining hall staff turned up in fancy dress outfits as hot dogs, mustard, cowgirls and French fries to help the atmosphere.
The next themed dinner day was Food for Life’s National Roast Dinner Day when nearly 400 pupils enjoyed a locally sourced roast dinner with potatoes, carrots and cabbage supplied by Hallwood Farm.
The school invited members of staff from Food for Life to enjoy the dinner in the dining hall, chatting to the children and learning more about how the school is working towards its silver Food for Life Award.
The school will be providing samples from the new menu for parents and children that visit the school for parents’ consultation.
