NATIONAL Division 1 rugby stars were the focus of attention on Tavistock College?s sports pitches last week, as the Plymouth Albion team visited the school as part of a healthy eating campaign. The squad, buoyed up following their 36-20 Powergen Trophy sixth-round win over Cornish Pirates, held a training session at the college, watched by members of the school?s rugby teams, before joining the students in the refectory for a delicious lunch of salads, pasta and baked potatoes. The event was the launch of the second stage of the Active Albion project to promote healthy eating to children. Louise Kessell, spokesperson for Plymouth Albion, said: ?We have just launched our Healthy Roadshow and we are visiting one secondary school a week in and around the area, promoting the benefits of fitness and healthy eating. ?The players train on site and talk to the students about the importance of eating lots of carbohydrates. ?They really enjoyed their visit to Tavistock ? the school made them feel very welcome and they put on a beautiful lunch.? Colin Eves, college principal, said: ?It was a privilege to host Plymouth Albion for a training session, a real opportunity for our students to learn the value of looking after themselves both by participating in regular exercise and eating good food. ?The team represent the type of role model that I hope all the college students would aspire to.? Mr Eves said there was a growing awareness amongst young people about the importance of looking after themselves. He said it was also ?very pleasing? to hear the team?s complimentary remarks about the food. ?Every day Lynne Roberts, our catering manager, and her team prepare really good food that the students appreciate. There was no special menu for the Albion team and they really enjoyed their lunch.?
